Abstract

The article discusses the relationship between the concepts of territorial identity, regional identity, local identity, and urban identity. The author proposes the definition of the urban identity. The article comments on the basic semantic points necessary for understanding urban identity. The author's model of modality of the urban identity is proposed for discussion. With the help of the data of sociological research the author analyzes and illustrates the elements of the proposed model: the inclusion in the urban space, place attachment, value orientation, conformity to requirements, perception of the urban environment, the distinctive features of the city in comparison with other localities, self-identification of people with the inhabitants of the city, the perception of the inhabitants of the city, the presence of photos of urban areas, the correspondence to the lifestyle of the residents of the town, the presence of patriotism, efforts to improve the urban environment or understanding the necessity in such activities.
