Some characteristic features of the difference between Russian and Japanese lexicography

The article describes some of the characteristic features of Russian and Japanese lexicography
that deserve attention and should be considered when using the material of vocabulary units in the
process of research. After a brief description of some aspects of Russian lexicography, the article
gives several features of Japanese lexicography that differ from Russian. For example, the inclusion of archaisms in dictionaries (with an explanation of the old written Japanese language bungo), proper nouns (names of places, names of famous historical figures, writers, politicians, etc.), differences in the structure of the presentation of the material, where first comes the spelling of the word in hiragana (syllabary), then the hieroglyphics of the word, and only after that the interpretation of the definition and examples. The function of dictionaries for reading hieroglyphs is also explained.
