On thematic dictionary project «Vocabulary of flax processing, spinning and weaving in Russian dialects of the Perm region»

Abstract

The article deals with the issues of representation of the lexis of flax growing, spinning and weaving in the dialectal thematic dictionary. The rationale for the necessity to compile such a dictionary source is given, which records and describes the vocabulary that has gone out of active use. The article presents a brief overview of the existing dialectal thematic dictionaries containing the vocabulary of flax growing, spinning and weaving. The authors expound the structure of the dictionary and its entries, the features of the interpretation of language units, the principles of thematic classification of vocabulary used in the dictionary. Two main groups of vocabulary are selected: «Names of the worker» and «Names of labour processes and derivatives». The second section includes such subsections as «Actions and processes», «Tools and instruments used in these
actions», «Results of actions», «Time and place of labour processes». The features of the interpretation of lexical units are determined, in which the definition includes not only linguistic, but
also encyclopedic information. The main task of compiling this dictionary is the need to describe this
lexical material and present it to a wide audience.
