On usefulness, uselessness, attractiveness and harm

The purpose of the article is to analyze the question of usefulness and harm of philosophy for life. It is shown that it has always been a major issue. The core of the matter is revealed if we refer to philosophy as a source of ease of existence, «people's philosophy», where all people are philosophers. Here «use» is derived from «poljga», which means «ease». Philosophical types of attitude to life are considered. Philosophy is also regarded as a teacher of life. The benefit of philosophy lies in its effects on the way people think and live. Philosophy is the science of principles, of power or will. In this connection the relation of philosophy and science is considered; for example, S. Weinberg's statement about «incomprehensible inefficiency of philosophy» is analyzed. The «philosopher's dilemma» is formulated: a philosopher is of no use when he has explained events (phenomena), and they have become obvious, and when he is unable to do so. It is emphasized that in the history of peoples there are philosophical epochs, which are the epochs of enlightenment. It is shown that the era of enlightenment is not the past, but the present of history, or contemporaneity. Here is the usefulness of philosophy. The conclusion is: «if there is no philosophy, then everything is allowed».
