Abstract

The first results of the palynological study of deposits of the medieval archaeological site Rozhdestvenskoye settlement are presented. On the basis of the obtained data it has been found that before the foundation of the settlement there had existed dark coniferous linden forests. When the settlement appeared and began functioning small-leaved formations started replacing the forests, possibly as a result of cutting softwood down. At the same time croplands and ruderal plant communities appeared and spread. Later, coniferous forests were replaced by pine ones, including the artificial planting of pine trees on the site of native forest formations.
