THE ANCIENT PAST OF THE PERM KRAI: THE PALAEOLITHIC AGE

This paper gives a popular scientific description of people settlement in the Upper Kama basin during the Palaeolithic age. In the middle (about 80 thousand years ago) and in the early upper paleolith (36-28 thousand years ago) the initial areas of settlement were the southern and the central territories of the Eastern-European plain. In the late paleolith (19-12.5 thousand years ago) the territory of Perm Krai had permanent population, with the shaping of local Ural late Palaeolithic culture, genetically connected with Upper Palaeolithic industries of the Western Siberia South. Chronological distribution of Palaeolithic camps in the Upper Kama basin reveals a clear connection with nature and climate change of this Northern region. The Upper Kama settlement took place in quite beneficial nature and climate conditions of the middle and late Pleistocene warming periods by primitive groups. Their life necessities and adaptive style was based on hunting hoofed herds and high mobility.
